Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is a key component of the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) process. It is a solution consisting of purified water and 32.5% automotive-grade urea.
When injected into the exhaust stream, DEF reacts with the heat of the exhaust gases and the SCR catalyst to convert harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) into harmless nitrogen and water vapor.
DEF is non-toxic and non-flammable. When handled and stored properly, it does not pose a significant risk to people, animals, equipment, or the environment.
